In a genre-bending composition, award winning composer Joseph Reuben unleashes an explosive and politically-charged debut album “What Is A Man.”
"What Is A Man makes for a triumphant orchestral debut" - David Graver, THE NEW YORK TIMES
This engaging musical experience invites listeners on a soul-shattering journey. Inspired by the works of Philip Glass, Hans Zimmer, and Jon Hopkins, Reuben’s album embody the emotions of LGBTQ communities and those subjected to prejudice and opposition.
Dark, enigmatic tones transition into upbeat, serene melodies bringing the album to life. By unmasking the debilitating impact of societal pressures, his creation offers a beacon of hope for those caught in the conflict. Vocal samples of ghastly assaults upon the queer community cut through cinematic soundscapes and embolden listeners to fight for their freedoms.
While it's a musical response to Reuben's personal journey with coming out in the midst of deeply religious roots, he says “I can empathize with those who echo my struggles, those that are ashamed or suppressed, as well as those on the opposing side that fear for the destruction of traditions and values. It is my hope this composition fosters discussion and understanding among differences.”
